Supplementary submission to the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) on Greece

The coalition of three NGOs, Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM), Minority Rights Group-Greece (MRG-G) and Coordinated Organizations and Communities for Roma Human Rights in Greece (SOKADRE), submitted on 10 August 2021 a report with information on the topics in this year’s ECRI’s list of questions that are directly related to those NGOs’ current activities, led by GHM and supported by MRG-G and SOKADRE. They had previously submitted a similar report in January 2014. The present supplementary submission has information that was made available after 10 August 2021 and is in the form of a series of thematic attachments, including the UN Human Rights Committee’s“List of issues prior to the submission of the third periodic report of Greece” which covers the topics in ECRI’s list of questions and also reflects the concerns raised in the joint GHM/MRG-G/SOKADRE/Humanist Union of Greece 26 August 2021 report to the UN HRCttee.

1. Expulsions and pushbacks with drownings, tortures, rapes, robberies: victims’ testimonies to GHM (work in progress – 29 interviews to date on 22 November 2021)

2. Archiving of complaints on racist crimes (work in progress – 16 decisions translated as of 22 November 2021)

3. Greek National Commission for Human Rights and Rosa Luxembourg Stiftung on widespread use and mainstreaming of hate speech in Greece (Greek Helsinki Monitor summary dated 22 November 2021)

4. Prosecutor’s order to summon Panayote Dimitras for preliminary investigation for false complaints (dated 9-6-2021)

5. The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders “Europe: Open season on solidarity: A study on the patterns of criminalisation of solidarity through the voices of migrants’ rights defenders” (November 2021)
